Charter Bahamas
Enjoy a taste of paradise with a
Bahama Yacht Charter
The Bahamas is a
sought after charter destination, because of its proximity to the USA;
it's wonderful sub-tropical climate tempered by the cooling trade winds;
calm seas abundant with coral reefs and exotic species of flora, fauna;
and with over 29 islands and more than a thousand cays for the wandering
cruiser to explore. While all the islands of the Bahamas share the bright
sunshine, crystal turquoise waters, long stretches of white sandy beaches
and a variety of plant and animal species, each island is unique in what
it offers visitors. New Providence Island is known for its rich history
and vibrant nightlife; Grand Bahama offers every imaginable type of
water-sport as well as parks and markets to stroll through; whilst the
cays of the Exumas are the most breathtaking sight to behold – whether
you are swimming underwater, or flying overhead. A Bahamas
yacht charter will offer you one of the most fulfilling and truly
rejuvenating vacations you could have.
Weather in the
Bahamas
What is the best time to take a
Bahamas Yacht Charter?
The cool trade
winds generally make any time in the year a great time for a yacht charter
in Bahamas. The temperature remains in the 20's, increasing to a max of 28°C
(82°F) in the months of July and August during summer, which lasts from
May to September. The remainder of the year is considered 'winter' and the
temperature is below 25°C (77°F) during these months. Hurricanes are
likely during June to November and although you might enjoy the warm
climate, this is not the best time for Bahamas
yacht charters. The Bahamas are humid throughout the year, and tend to
get more so during summers. However, the cooling winds make the atmosphere
particularly pleasant.
Sample Itinerary
The best destinations for your
Bahamas Yacht Charter
Day 1: Meet your
captain and crew at Nassau. Spend the day taking in the capital of the
Bahamas – shop at Bay Street, splash around with dolphins at Dolphin
Cay, enjoy some local savouries of rock lobster, conch and snapper at
Arawak Cay or laze around on any of the 17 pristine beaches and wind down
with some exotic drinks at the beach bars after dark.
Day 2: Start your Bahama
yacht charter with the Exumas. Anchor at the Elizabeth harbour and
after a nice meal at any of the local restaurants explore George Town.
Visit Hermitage Estate and Williams Town. Head to Staniel Cay where you
can meet with other cruisers at the famous yacht club and snorkel in the
Thunderball cave, of the James Bond fame. Spend the evening at the yacht
club.
Day 3: Head to the
Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park – a 176 square mile extravaganza of exotic
fish, reefs and other aquatic flora and fauna. Scuba dive, snorkel, swim
and be surprised all throughout the day.
Day 4: Sail to
Long Island, where you can enjoy some spectacular dive sites, especially
the 600 feet deep Dean's Blue Hole. Sail around island's unique coastline
– steep jagged cliffs on the east coast and splendid white beaches on
the west. Scuba diving enthusiasts can participate in some shark diving
and swimming with schools of fish. As you sail around Long Island, take
some time to stop at Acklins/Crooked Island and let the peace and quietude
overwhelm you. Indulge in some serious fishing in the many bonefish flats
or just laze around on some of the most secluded beaches Bahamas has to
offer.
Day 5: Make your
way towards Rum Cay / San Salvador à là Christopher Columbus and
to see villages that look like they're still in the 15th
century. Explore wreckages left by the pirates of the Caribbean (some of
which make excellent dive sites), and visit the monuments at Long Bay,
Watlings Castle and ruined plantations. Head to the nearby Cat Islands,
another serene getaway. Explore the churches at Mt. Alvernia and Old
Bight, try some authentic Indian Arawak meals at McQueens, and make sure
to you don't miss a performance by a local band that plays with indigenous
hand-hewn instruments. There are enough resorts and inns here, in case you
begin to miss the good life.
Day 6: Sail to the
Abacos Islands. Take your time chartering the turquoise waters around
Great and Little Abaco and the many cays in between before you anchor at
Marsh Harbour. The Sea of Abaco has a wide choice of cays – Elbow Cay,
Green Turtle Cay, Man-O-War Cay, Stranger's Cay, Umbrella Cay and Walker's
Cay – which give you ample opportunity to sail. Visit the Pelican Cay
Underwater Preserve, the Abaco National Park or the Memorial Sculpture
Gardens. And if your conscience permits, try out some turtle stew – a
local delicacy.
Day 7: Leave for
Grand Bahama. Grand Bahama provides every imaginable water-sport. Dive
from a 230 feet steel freighter, explore underwater caves in a 60-foot
long reef and swim with sharks or through an underwater tunnel. Indulge in
fishing, boating, snorkelling or laze on the Paradise Cove beach or Gold
Rock beach. On land, you can explore the Garden of the Groves, Lucayan
National Park and the Hydroflora Gardens. As night approaches you can
visit the many beach bars, nightclubs and even casinos.
Day 8: For the
last spot of your yacht charter in Bahamas you could visit either Berry
Islands or Bimini. Both offer seclusion, privacy as well as snorkelling
and diving sites. Berry Islands, a cluster of over a 100 cays, is an
excellent snorkelling and sport fishing site. Bimini is also a great spot
for fishing and diving site, thanks to its proximity to the Gulf Stream
which feeds the variety of fish and reefs found in these waters. You can
introduce yourself to the spotted dolphins along the coast, take a dip in
a 'healing pool' of lithium and sulphur and enjoy some rum with the
locals.
Day 9: It's back
to Nassau, where you disembark and bid goodbye to your Bahamas
charter yacht, before catching up on some last minute shopping and
sight-seeing.
