| MOONBEAM IV |
MOONBEAM IV is a classic gaff cutter, built by the world-renowned William Fife & Son yard in Scotland during 1914-20, and now based in the South of France.
Since the early Victorian period, British yacht racing has always had an elite class. In the mid-years of the nineteenth century, schooners dominated but from the early1880’s they were eclipsed by a new generation of large single-masted cutters. From 1893, when the Prince of Wales built the legendary Britannia, and until the final season of J-class racing in 1937, 'The Big Class' was the pinnacle of British and indeed international racing.
The fourth, final and largest MOONBEAM designed by William Fife Junior was first launched in 1914 and commissioned after the Great War, in 1920. She is perhaps best described by Uffa Fox: “No matter whether she is under way or at anchor, MOONBEAM is beautiful to look upon and, combining the speed of a racer with the comfort of a cruiser, is a vessel any sea-man would be proud to own.”
And her beauty is not only skin deep; her stylish interior has the look and feel of a gentlemen’s club. The waxed rosewood panelling, the Persian rugs, the antique lamps and leather-bound books, all combine to provide an old world ambience of Edwardian comfort, in stark and satisfying contrast to the elements outside.
The yacht provides luxury accommodation for six guests in a master stateroom with double & single berths and en-suite bath/WC, a double berth guest stateroom with en-suite shower/WC and a further guest cabin with two bunk berths and en-suite shower/WC. She has air-conditioning throughout.
MOONBEAM IV, one of the finest Gaff Cutters of the 20th century and winner of the prestigious King’s Cup at Cowes in 1920 & 1923, is now available for private and corporate charters in the Mediterranean from her base on the Côte d'Azur. Join this Rolls Royce of yachts and be part of history once again over 80 years later. Sail the boat whose bewitching beauty is enough to stop a sailor dead in their tracks and experience for yourself the splendour of her massive rig under full sail.
For corporate team-building days and Classic Regattas, the yacht can welcome 25 day-guests aboard who will be assisted in sailing her by the 5 professional crew. With a celebrated birthplace, a spectacular racing record and a patrician history, Moonbeam is one of the few remaining survivors from the golden age of yachting. To sail the biggest gaff cutter in the world is a rare opportunity not to be missed for sailors and non-sailors alike.
MOONBEAM IV is also available for corporate hospitality and race viewing at the 2007 America's Cup in Valencia. Please contact us for information on Americas Cup charters.
