LA CLÉ DE SOL

'La Cle de Sol' classic yacht charter Cannes

LA CLÉ DE SOL has been based in the Vieux Port of Cannes since she was launched in 1953.  The yacht was built for Baron Jean de l’Espée, who sailed her around the world in 1957-1963 with a Steinway baby grand piano at the foot of his four-post bed, before writing a book about his journey.

“This boat has, for the public, an original feature which distinguished her from her sisters: within her capacious belly she held a Steinway baby grand piano (…) which inspired me to name her La Clé de Sol (Treble Clef) and it was in part this instrument which determined her beam, as my height influenced her interior headroom; obviously, had I been 1.70m (5’6”) tall and a flute player, the hull dimensions would have been quite different.”
‘Le P
ériple de la Clé de Sol’ - Baron Jean de l’Espée, 1964
